Finally ready for 2010 – Austin Baby Photographer

Hello People of Earth.  Thank you for checking back in despite the six week blogging hiatus.  Garrod and I had a swell holiday season full of travel, family, friends, and good times.  I feel like things are finally back to normal this week.  Therefore, I think it’s time to start holding myself accountable for all of the goals I set for 2010.  Perhaps if I post my goals here on the blog, I am [slightly] more likely to follow through.  Here goes nothing.

Adrienne’s Goals for 2010
1.     Call a CPA and get more organized about this whole “taxes” thing.
2.    Update my website with new photos.
3.    Create a Facebook Fan Page for Adrienne Huebner Photography.  (I hate asking people to become a “fan,” but I don’t think I can put it off any longer.  It’s just part of that whole “networking” thing that, as a business owner, I should do.)
4.    Create a new blog for my boudoir photography business (because, really, it has no business being side-by-side with my baby/family photography stuff).
5.    Decide on a name for my boudoir business.  (Perhaps this should come before creating the blog.)
6.    Join a gym.
7.    Go to the afore-mentioned gym at least twice a week (and exercise while there).
8.    Blog at least twice a week.
9.    Watch less TV.  Ok, guys… Which of the following shows should I give up? – Mad Men, How I Met Your Mother, Brothers & Sisters, The Bachelor (something tells me this one’s going to be the big loser), Modern Family, 30 Rock, The Office, Parks & Recreation, So You Think You Can Dance, Project Runway. There are others, but those are the ones I’m pretty religious about watching.
10.    Eat more vegetables.

There are many more goals I have inside my head, but those are the ones I really need help on.  Please hold me accountable!  (You know… Just text me if you sense that I’m not eating enough vegetables, mmmkay?)

Because no blog would be complete without some visual treats, here are a few of beautiful 7lb, 13oz. sweet baby Hayes.

The Ranch

It’s 9:50pm and I just realized that it’s Wednesday and I owe you a blog post.  Unfortunately, I’m tired and the only thing I can think of for What I Like Wednesday is that I like sleep.  I like bed.  I want to go to there.

I’m going to try to come up with a few more things I like for a post tomorrow. In the meantime, here are a couple of photos I took last week at my grandfather’s ranch:

My super cool bro, Lance:

My lovely mom, who nimbly hopped up on those bales of hay like a 10 year old kid:

WARNING:  This next photo is not for the weak of stomach.

My rough & tough dad who took a beating while clearing out dead cedar trees:

Isn’t that lovely?  He pulled up in his mule all nonchalant like he didn’t have blood pouring down his face.  It was pretty hardcore.

And finally, cow #22. Let’s call her Bessie Mae.

happy trails to you,

What I Like Wednesday Volume II

How can it possibly be Wednesday again?!?  It seems like time has been passing at an incredibly rapid pace lately.  It is just me?

Here are a few more things that make me happy:

Finding split ends: I know this sounds bizarre, but I love finding split ends in my hair.  I don’t love that I have split ends, but I love finding them, because then I can cut them off and banish them from my head forever.  (Garrod hates this practice of mine and would probably put it on his Makes Me Mad Monday list.)

(Thankfully, Garrod does not have a Makes Me Mad Monday list, but he does have a blog, which brings me to my next point.)

Austin Foodist:  My husband just gave birth to a brand spankin’ new blog about food.  Huzzah!  What does this mean for me?  It means that (theoretically) Garrod is going to cook more often (he’s a fabulous cook, but only breaks out his skills once in awhile) AND that I can pester him about blogging (or more precisely, not blogging) as much as he pesters me.  Everybody wins!

Sephora:  Oh Sephora, how I love thee.  I could spend hours… HOURS I tell you… wandering through this store, trying out new eyeshadows and perfumes and pining for $75 makeup brushes and $150 jars of skin cream.

My loyal commenters:  There are a handful of lovely souls who so kindly acknowledge my presence here on the interweb by commenting on almost every blog post.  To them I say thank you.  It does my heart good to see your encouraging words and if it wasn’t for you, I might never blog again.  Please keep commenting.  I love you for it.

Babies in business casual attire:  There’s really nothing cuter than a chubby baby wearing a button down shirt and tie.  I give you Exhibit A:

Thanks for stopping by!

What I Like Wednesday

I decided that I would be more likely to blog on a regular basis if I have a couple of blog theme days.  I’ve seen some “Miscellaneous Monday” posts and some “Flashback Friday” posts, but I’m going to start things off with “What I Like Wednesday.”  Is that cheesy?  Tell me it’s not cheesy.

Here are a few things that have really been floating my boat lately:

Google Reader:  Google Reader helps me stay on top of all 723 blogs I follow.  (Ok, I’m only following 36 right now, but that’s after I forced myself to cut waaaay back.)  For those of you who aren’t familiar with Google Reader, allow me to explain.  Google reader is a “web-based aggregator, capable of reading Atom and RSS feeds.”  Basically, you log into your google account, add subscriptions for each blog you want to follow, and voila!  Every time one of your favorite blogs has a new post, it shows up automatically on Reader.  That way, you don’t have to check each blog one at a time, hoping for updated content.  This, in turn, reduces the amount of guilt experienced by negligent bloggers such as myself.  Here’s a snapshot of my Google Reader.  If you don’t see your blog on there, let me know.  I’d love to add it!  (Also, if you could all add me, that would be swell.  As you can see below, I added myself.  Because I’m cool like that.)

googlereader

KGSR:  I feel like this local radio station (specifically the music they play) really embodies what I love about Austin (diversity and independence with a little bit of Texas charm thrown in for good measure).  I mean, how many radio stations do you know that play Radiohead, The Rolling Stones, Rosanne Cash, and Ryan Adams all on the same day?  (Apparently, we should add alliteration to the list for What I Like Wednesday.)

Brandi Carlile:  I may be a little late to the party, but I just discovered Brandi’s music (thanks to the afore-mentioned KGSR) and I absolutely LOVE it.  If I could sing, I would want to sing like this.  (For the record, I most definitely cannot sing…. at all.) I’d elaborate on why I like her music, but I can’t come up with the right musical adjectives, so if you’re interested, check out this review on Paste Magazine.  Also, download these songs:  The Story, Caroline, Dreams, and That Year.  You won’t be disappointed.  (Unless you dislike good music… Kim G., I’m looking at you.)

KISS Albums: I’ve ordered albums from several different vendors and these are by far my favorite.  They are simple and classy with sumptuous leather covers and rich photographic printing. (Did I really just use the word “sumptuous”?  I don’t know that I’ve ever typed that word before.  Huh.)

This mutt:  I love her floppy ears, the way she wiggles her butt when she’s excited, and the fact that she’s kinda a momma’s girl (don’t tell Garrod I said that).

That’s it for this first edition of What I Like Wednesday.  Please hold me accountable to doing this on a somewhat consistent basis.

Love,
Adrienne

No more XOXO – Austin Portrait Photography

Those who really know me are familiar with the fact that I have a tendency to become engrossed in mindless reality television shows that most 28 year old professionals wouldn’t care to watch (or admit to watching).  For instance, I’m a regular viewer of The Hills, The City, The Bachelor/Bachelorette, ANTM, and SYTYCD.  (If you know those last two acronyms, perhaps we are kindred spirits.)

Last night I added another dimension to my obsession with teen pop culture:  Twilight.  Yes, I, Adrienne Elizabeth Huebner, am now a Twilighter.  (Is that the correct term?)  Somehow, I convinced Garrod to pick up a copy of Twilight while he was at Barnes & Noble searching for his Fantasy Football magazine.  He called me while at the store to ask the name of the Twilight author (because he’d rather scour the fiction section for Stephenie Meyer than admit to a B&N clerk that he was looking for a book about teenage vampire love).  Unfortunately, Garrod’s efforts to find the book on his own proved unsuccessful, so he had to break down and ask.  (Poor thing.)  Anyway, Twilight has turned me into a giddy schoolgirl and I made it through 40 pages before falling asleep last night, which is a new record for me.  (Throughout my previous literary adventure, Reconciliation by Benazir Bhutto, I read an average of 5 pages per night.  Thinking really tires me out.)

Despite my aforementioned obsessions, one teen pop culture trend to which I have yet to fall prey is Gossip Girl.  Honestly, I would probably enjoy it, but I’m bound and determined to avoid it.  I just don’t have enough time in my day to add another show to my DVR lineup, so I draw the line at Gossip Girl.  However, while watching an episode of ANTM on the CW the other day, I happened to see a commercial for Gossip Girl where the narrator signed off by saying “xoxo…. Gossip Girl.”  I found this to be somewhat disturbing (because “xoxo” is my standard sign-off on my blog), so I did a little research.   It turns out that EVERY SINGLE EPISODE of Gossip Girl ends with the “xoxo” farewell.

I give you Exhibit A:

Rather than be seen as a Gossip Girl wannabe, I have decided to come up with a new valediction for my blog posts.  Here are my questions to you, loyal readers:  1) Should I utilize a standard sign-off for all blog posts, or should I spice things up by using a new one each time?  2)  If I were to choose a standard sign-off, what should it be?  Please share your thoughts in the comment section below.

Here are some possible valedictions:
Until Next Time
Ciao
Namaste
Cheers
Adieu
Arrivederci
Auf wiedersehen (would this make me a Heidi Klum wannabe?)
Au revoir
Bien à vous
Goodbye and good luck (this reminds me of the good ‘ole days of TEX, which you could only understand if you attended UT in the 90’s)
Bon voyage
Farewell, my lovelies
10-4
Cordially yours
Yours truly
Love

And because no blog post would be complete without a photo, here is one of JP & Blair doing some X-ing and O-ing while their sweet dogs look on.
