Making Progress – Austin Portrait Photographer

Welcome back!  I decided it was time for some spring cleaning on the ol’ blog, so I’ve switched things up a bit (thanks to my fantastic husband, Garrod).  It’s still a work in progress, but I hope you like the new look.

As you may have noticed, the tackling of my 2010 goals is off to a slow start.  I accomplished goal #1 (call a CPA – GO ME!) and goal #5 (pick a name for my boudoir business, which is soon to be announced).  And, I’m getting super close to accomplishing goal #4 (launch a separate boudoir blog).

I’m doing a little better on goal #10 (eat more vegetables).  I’ve actually been eating a pescatarian diet for the past two months, much to Garrod’s chagrin. For those of you who aren’t familiar with the varying degrees of vegetarianism, a “pescatarian” is someone who abstains from eating meat with the exception of fish.     I admit, I am a bit of a softy when it comes to animals and the movie Food, Inc. really had an impact on me.   However, my health is the primary impetus behind my dietary change of heart.   I’ve always had high cholesterol (despite a pretty low-fat diet) and for the past couple of years I’ve felt like the food I eat could have something to do with the fact that more often than not, I feel tired and unfocused.  So, I’m giving the “no meat” thing a try.  Maybe it will make a difference or maybe it won’t, but at least I tried something.

The rest of my goals are just lying there… unaccomplished… taunting me.  Maybe when the cow remnants are completely out of my system, I’ll be able to really focus and start getting things done. ;)

The blogging goal is obviously off to a very rough start.  The “watch less TV” goal has imploded.  In the last month, I actually managed to ADD a show to my list of must-see TV.  (That show is Dexter.  Check it out.  It’s fan-freakin-tastic.  But, you must start with Season 1, Episode 1.)

One of my 2010 goals that I didn’t include on the original list is to sell our condo.  We love living near downtown Austin, but it’s time to find a place with more room and a yard for our dog, Maddy.  Our condo went on the market a couple of weeks ago, so keep your fingers crossed that it will sell quickly.  In an effort to play up the “how cool would it be to live on South Congress” angle, I took photos of some of the fun restaurants/bars/shops within walking distance and framed 8×10 prints to hang in our condo.  Here are a few of the shots as well as the final product on our living room wall.

Be sure to check back on Thursday for an engagement photo post of a GORGEOUS (and fun and smart and kind) couple, Liz & Brad.

As always, thanks for stopping by and please let me know what you think in the comment section.  I will love you forever.  For real.

love,
Adrienne

I do like the new look and I LOVE the South Congress photos…well done! And in spite of the meaning, “pescatarian” just sounds like some old grouchy sort of person to me.

Congrats on making progress – can’t wait to see the boudoir blog! You should chat with Lisa – you are both of the same ‘vegan variety’ :) She’s excellent at making her juices in the juicer and preparing healthy, fun meals. Of course, I have to go out every now and then to get my steak, but that’s ok :)

You are so sweet:). Please blog more often, I love reading it! the pictures above are great and good luck with the condo! I hope you become my neighbor in North Austin!

I must say, the new design is almost as easy on the eyes as you. (ahhhhhhhhhhhhh)

I must now counter-blog.

Elizabeth Huebner - March 24, 2010 - 8:29 am

Adrienne! After your blog on the Google Reader, I have become obsessed! I already have 12 blogs on my list and seem to add at least once a week. I was excited to see an update from your blog! The pictures look gorgeous as always! :)

I really love the SoCo pictures! I hope your condo sells fast.

I can’t wait for the unveiling of the boudoir site :)

Excellent shots. If you want to do some black and whites of a certain BBQ trailer, your husband and I will happily volunteer as your assistants.

This comment is mostly to motivate you to blog more since you are both talented photographer and talented writer. I hope your condo sells quickly. I posted it on Facebook, but apparently my friends are all happily housed. The photos look great! I pray that you get off of South Congress quickly because clearly all of the hippies are getting to your head. Perhaps a little meat would do you good. Don’t forget that meat is a complete protein and therefore an excellent source of essential amino acids. It will give you energy to tackle all of the other goals you’ve set out to do. Plus, the animals would eat you if the shoe was on the other foot. ;) And how can any pescatarian watch Dexter? That show is scary. xxoo

Love, love, love the new photos…and they’ll be great mementos of your days in that neighborhood after you move to your new place! Good work with your goals…keep it up!

Love these photos! Had to send to my neighbor. He’s obsessed with the cup cake mobile!

Linda - March 24, 2010 - 4:18 pm

The black and white photos are way cool! (Sorry don’t know what the hip phrase for “way cool” is these days.)
I’m very excited to see the new boudoir name and blog!
The Austin Motel sign is very phallic — (bad linda — I couldn’t help myself)

@Janet in FW – Me being a pescatarian makes Garrod grouchy.
@Eric – I’ve always wanted to learn how to make my own juices!
@Liz – I want to be your neighbor, too. (Only if you make some room in your crazy schedule for me, though.) ;)
@Garrod – I’m waiting… (for your counter blog)
@Elizabeth – Yay – So glad to have helped you see the light of GR! What types of blogs do you like to follow?
@Jennifer – I can’t wait either! It’s still in the hands of the graphic designers, but I’ll send you an email when it’s ready. :)
@Josh – ew meat. ;)
@Sal – Coming from my most hippie-ish-SIL, that is saying something! ;) Really, though, I’m sure I’ll go back to my carnivorous ways soon enough. This is more a test of my will power than anything.
@Abby – Thanks for the support. Miss you!
@Kathy – The cupcake mobile is pretty fantastic. You should come visit and we’ll take you!
@Linda – You and Garrod are of the same mind when it comes to the Austin Motel sign. You are not alone.

I’m partial to the South Congress Cafe pic! Very nice blog post, and I agree that Dexter does indeed Rock the Casbah.

Love the new look of the blog-way to go, G! And the photos are indeed “way cool”…I hope they sway someone to make you a fabulous offer on the condo :)

I of course have to follow my celeb gossip websites and some craft websites too!

Nice, I also started watching dexter in the past month, and was going to tell you and my ‘BIL’ to do the same.

You have my support on the eating of fewer animal muscles of course. You’ll be shrinking your environmental footprint, bringing down your saturated fat intake along with the cholesterol, and you’ll have a lowered risk of cancer and heart disease. And just think of how many fewer lesions and such you’ll be chomping down on… : )

Mix that with milk, ice, and a banana. It’s delicious and it’s sweetener isn’t aspartame.

Hey! I just finished reading Eating Animals. I too am contemplating being a pescatarian.
